SKYLINE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH                          ORGANIST/PIANIST JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities of the Organist/Pianist are to facilitate worship by accompanying adult choir, praise team, providing solo music; and leading the congregational singing from organ or piano. This position could be a job share if desired.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • To work closely with and under the direction of the Director of Music
  • Accompany choir in weekly rehearsal (September to June) and in our Sunday service (year round)
  • Accompany praise team in weekly rehearsal (September to June) and in our Sunday service (year round)                           
  • Accompany special music for Sunday service when choir is not singing
  • Lead congregational singing in a manner that assists people of all musical levels to worship God joyfully in song
  • Coordinate prelude, postlude, and offertory music selections with sermon topics and church seasons
  • Play for weddings and memorials as requested for additional honorarium
Required Skill Set:
  • Commitment to the Christian faith with a heart for worship
  • Ability to explore and incorporate musical diversity
  • Ability to play both organ and piano in a single service
Desired Skill Set:
  • Ability to play praise music from lead sheets
Hours and Wages:
  • 7-9 hours per week, currently Wednesday evenings (September to June), Sunday mornings and other designated services                                                                                                                                        
  • $8,000-$10,000  Depending on qualifications
  • We are willing to entertain the possibility of making this a job share.
